When the City of Burlington detected the pesticide Atrazine in their finished drinking water, they used Source Water Protection to eliminate the problem and saved money in the process. The City worked with Agricultural Extension Agents to educate local farmers about pesticide usage and succeeded in removing the Atrazine from the source water. Rather than pay $100,000 annually for carbon treatment, the City solved their pesticide contamination problem at a one-time cost of $30,000. .
