Concerns about agricultural
runoff impacting the drinking water in Henderson County led to a
multi-front effort to limit pollution in the Mills River watershed.
Innovative practices such as the construction of cattle feed/waste
structures or the use of agrochemical handling facilities were combined
with landowner education, restoration and conservation of riparian
buffers, and streambank stabilization to create a program that addressed
the water quality issues of the region. This large-scale project
applied funding sought from a variety of areas and was initiated
by the Mills River Partnership, a diverse collaboration of stakeholders.
